HOW IT BEGAN

Reyes Gonzales Morales and Victoria Rizo Gonzales built a life rooted in perseverance, family, and tradition. Their journey began in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and continued through Monterrey, where Reyes opened his first meat market at just 25 years old.

When business was slow, Reyes walked door to door selling baskets of freshly made chorizo, sharing a product he believed in with the people around him. His commitment to quality, hard work, and tradition became the foundation for everything that followed.

That same determination carried the family from Mexico to West Texas, where Reyes worked as a butcher, learned English, and continued building a better life for his family.

El Rey Chorizo & Sausage Co. was born from that legacy. First made in Mexico, then in West Texas, our chorizo is now produced in a USDA-inspected plant in South Central Texas as we continue sharing our family’s traditional Mexican chorizo with new communities.

We are El Rey, named in honor of Reyes Gonzales Morales, the patriarch whose commitment to quality continues to guide everything we do.

Javier and Joe, two of Reyes’ children, and Austin, his grandson, are proud to carry that legacy forward. For our family, chorizo has always been more than food. It is tradition. It is flavor. It is a reason to gather.

Through every package of El Rey Chorizo, we invite you to bring a taste of Mexican heritage into your home and create meaningful moments around your own table.
